Almaraz Names Andrew Current Assistant Coach

Aug. 13, 2008

DENVER, COLO. - Andrew Current, a local high school and club coach, has been named an assistant coach at Metro State, women's soccer head coach Adrianne Almaraz announced Wednesday.

"We are very excited to add Andrew to our staff," said Almaraz. "He is a hard working and motivated individual who will be a great asset to all aspects of our program."

Current, who will work primarily with the goalkeepers, has been a local youth soccer coach with several local organizations. He coaches three teams for REAL Colorado, a local club program, and is also the girls' goalkeeper coach at Valor High School in Highlands Ranch, Colo. In addition to his coaching duties with REAL, he organizes youth soccer camps for the organization. Previously, he has been a coach with the Thompson club. Current has a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) State Goalkeeper Diploma.

Current also plays in the Colorado Amateur Soccer League and for the Fort Collins Fury in the Premier Arena Soccer League. Current played three seasons for NAIA member William Jewell (Mo.) College, where he was voted most inspirational and hardest working. He earned a bachelor's degree in finance from Metro State in 2004.

Current's responsibilities at Metro State begin immediately.
