Almaraz Releases Women's Soccer Schedule

June 4, 2008

DENVER, COLO. - A trip to Minnesota to take on two NCAA Tournament teams and 10 home matches highlight six-time defending RMAC champion Metro State's 2008 schedule, released Wednesday by head coach Adrianne Almaraz.

"We are excited for the upcoming season," said Almaraz. "It is vital we come out of preseason prepared and ready to play."

The Roadrunners start the season off with a bang, traveling to Minnesota to face 2007 NCAA Tournament teams Minnesota State Mankato and Winona State, Aug. 28-30. Metro State defeated Mankato and lost to Winona State, 1-0, last year in Denver. The Roadrunners then return home for three nonconference games, including a match-up with NCAA qualifier University of Mary, Sept. 1. Other nonconference games include Grand Canyon, Sept. 7 and NCAA Tournament team Carson Newman, Sept. 28.

The Roadrunners play 12 conference matches in 2008. The conference slate begins with a four-game roadtrip, beginning with New Mexico Highlands and Colorado School of Mines, Sept. 12-14. Metro State's first league home game is against Adams State, Oct. 3. The Roadrunners have four RMAC matches at home, Oct. 17-26, before heading to NCAA Tournament team Fort Lewis, Oct. 31, in the final week of the regular season.

"We have a tough schedule and every game will be a battle," said Almaraz. "There is no team on our conference schedule that we can take lightly."

Metro State advanced to its sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament last season, going 16-4-2 overall. The Roadrunners graduated just four seniors and return all-America defender Nicole Cito.
