Gorman, Palmer Named NCBWA All-West Region First Team

May 21, 2008

ELLENSBURG, WASH. - Metro State catcher Reece Gorman and outfielder Jake Palmer have been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association (NCBWA) Division II All-West Region first team, it was announced Wednesday.

It is the second consecutive NCBWA first-team honor for Gorman, while Palmer was a second-team honoree in 2006. Both also earned Daktronics first-team accolades earlier this month.

Gorman led the Roadrunners in average (.417), runs (81) and doubles (27), while he was second in RBI (62). His 27 doubles and 81 runs scored are Metro State school records. Palmer led the team in RBI (89) and home runs (12), while he was third in average (.412) and doubles (15). His 89 RBI are a school record.

Central Washington's Jamie Nilsen and Ian Bridges of Sonoma State were named the Co-Players of the Year, while Marquis Fleming of Cal State Stanislaus was named the Pitcher of the Year. John Goelz of Sonoma State earned Coach of the Year honors. Four RMAC players were named to the first team, while two also received second-team recognition.
